The museum stands on the site of Gyeongbokgung Palace and offers an insight into traditional life in the country. The museum consists of 3 distinct sections, namely an introduction to the history of the Korean people through the Goryeo, Joseon, and Silla dynasties, a reconstructed peasant village offering an insight into the local way of life through the 4 seasons of the year, and finally, the life cycle of the nobility born into the Joseon dynasty, from birth, through school and marriage, to burial. The museum is very well designed and even has a special area where children can familiarise themselves with Korean culture through a series of fun games. There is also a row of reconstructed traditional houses close to the museum.
