The coastline running from Cap de Sant Antoni, in Xàbia, to Cabo Blanco, in Teulada, is an excellent stretch of the region's coast, featuring cliffs, bays and coves and various types of rock formation where you'll find a few beaches suitable for bathing. This area, spanning the Bética Mountain range, has been declared a marine reserve and boasts some unique landscapes formed by the coastline itself, some islands located just off the coast, rugged mountainsides. and a handful of architectural features, such as the Vigía Towers and the port at Punta de Moraira. It is also the ideal place for a spot of deep-sea diving due to the unusual underwater rock formations which provide a home for a huge range of marine life. Bear in mind, though, that this isn't the only marine reserve on the Alicante coastline; the little piece of paradise that is the Island of Tabarca is another hotspot for those who like to indulge in a spot of deep-sea exploration. Located just over 3 mi off the Cap de Santa Pola, the island is some 400m wide and just over a mile long and its waters are so crystal-clear that you hardly need to dive at all to observe the marine flora and fauna concealed amid the reef. Of course, the island also offers some spectacular views of the coastline, and you might also get to see some migratory birds, depending on the time of year when you visit. This beauty is not, however, exclusive to the Island of Tabarca. Indeed the entire Levante coastline boasts some spectacular island formations, such as the Columbretes Islands near Castellón.
