  • Granada and the Alhambra

Below the Sierra Nevada, the city of Granada is spread over three hills. Between 1238 and 1492, the city of Granada reached its peak under the influence of the Nasrid Dynasty and attracted scientists, artists and scholars. The Alhambra, its palaces and gardens surrounded by the rampart walls are a testimony to the intentions of that period: a reproduction of paradise on earth. The ceiling of the Salón de Embajadores is a representation of the seven skies of the Muslim Cosmogony. The Patio de Arrayanes encloses the pond of the Myrtle courtyard which reflects light into neighbouring rooms. Enter the Sala de los Abencerrajes to discover its stalactite dome and don't miss the Patio de los Leones or the Alhambra roofs which are to be admired at sunset. Take a walk around the streets of Albaicin, an area which is most significantly marked by the Arab origins of the city. Here you will find El Bańuelo, the 11th century Moor Baths, which let the natural light shine through small star shaped openings, and Santa Ana, the 16th century church, is found in the same area.
