La Gomera - Majona Nature Park This area is full of natural treasures with endless chasms, cliffs, and forests to admire. © Celestino Gonzalez Mendez
Majona National Park, on the eastern part of the island, stretches over a vast area, from San Sebastián de La Gomera to the municipality of Hermigua. This land is a natural treasure, where it is possible to admire countless ravines, cliffs and forests. You will also be able to visit a few uninhabited hamlets, such as Taguluche, Juel and Enchereda, where the land is still cultivated a little, and cattle is bred. The biological particularities of this place are the vast laurisilva forests and varied wildlife, composed essentially of aboriginal invertebrates and a great number of birds. The main curiosity, here, is the presence of a type of aboriginal mammal, unique to the island; a species of bat. La Majona also has considerable cultural heritage, with sites such as the Natural Caves (Cuevas Naturales), sacrificial altars, cazoletas and canals located in the Barranco de Majona and Lomo de Majona.
