As Tenerife's largest stretch of forest, the park serves as one of the island's lungs. Corona Forestal Natural Park, which stretches over an area of 125,000 acres, is an excellent refuge for many an aboriginal species, whether animals or plants. Mountains, ravines, splits, valleys, etc, unite to make this area an exceptional spot for observing nature. The 'forest crown' is the natural habitat of a great many endemic species, such as the Canarian pine, blue chaffinches, laurel pigeons, and various types of reptiles. Although it was once subject to lumbering, the 'forest crown' is now perfectly maintained, and constitutes one of the island's unique leisure bases.
