The local flora is composed of olive, almond, fig, carob and stone pine trees. Orange and lemon trees are also part of the archipelago's landscape. In the Sierra Tramuntana, the oak trees occupy an important place in this protected area. Minorca was declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 1993.
