Travel is my driving force in life, and although I have had the privilege of visiting 30 countries so far, my heart will always remain in India...
The harrijasotzailes (800kg boulder carriers), the aitzkolaris (axe yielding lumberjacks), and the demakildantza, zortziko, and ezpatadanza dances are only some examples of the very rich rural tradition in Navarre. This is evidence of the manner in which values and traditions have survived in a region that has long taken great pride in celebrating its most ancient festivities. Furthermore, there is a strong religious tradition, and thus an abundance of religious events, such as the pilgrimage to the hermitage and sanctuaries (Roncesvaux, Muskilda, Ochagavía, etc...). The most popular route is undoubtedly the one that leads to Javier Castle (with the 'Javierada' celebrated from the 4th to 12th of March). A large festival to commemorate the work of former raft builders who sailed down the river with cargos of wood is held in Burgui during the 'Día de la Almadía', an event that draws tourists from all over the country.
