The north-western coast of Majorca benefits from this massive mountain range that protects it from the cold winds of the north. Composed of steep cliffs, gorgeous landscapes and stunning views, it stretches from the Bay of Pollencia, which follows that of Alcudia, opposite the island of Dragonera, to Cap Formentor. The slope along the sea, where it circulates through winding but well maintained roads, shelters huge mountains, which rise to 4,593 ft and fall precipitously into the blue waters. It is a true paradise for excursions. The picturesque villages of Valldemosa, Deia, Banyalbufar (literally "the place where the wind always blows" in Arabic) and Estallenchs are nestled in these striking red rocks which dramatically contrast with the colours of the sea. The long golden sand beaches gather in the bays of Alcudia and Pollencia, small creeks hidden on either side of the mountain range.
