Towards Granada, in the backcountry of Almeria, you will find the most arid zone of Western Europe, the Tabernas desert. Here it's like you are entering the 'far west'. Barren hills, dry vegetation, canyons and bright sunshine have made this place a perfect setting for many an Italian Western, notably 'A Fistful of Dollars,' directed by Sergio Leone. Two film sets, still in use for adverts and TV series, can be visited.
