The island's main town is unquestionably charming with its cosy looking houses with their red roofs and little private gardens. The buildings, which have been preserved from the Swedish era, are easily recognizable by their horizontal framing and sash windows. The town is reputed for its lively marina where boat crews come and go and yacht owners shop in luxury boutiques and linger on café terraces and in fashionable restaurants. Do not miss a visit to the ruins of Fort Gustav to admire the magnificent view of the port, or equally a visit to Saint Barthelemy's Municipal Museum housed in a beautiful freestone building which allows you to discover the history and culture of the island through various eras (building habits, costumes and objects).
