In the north of the country, the climate is arid with sand storms and high daily temperature variations. The centre of Sudan, between Khartoum and the Bahr al-Ghazal province, has a continental tropical climate with little rainfall for its vegetation (161 mm of rainfall in Khartoum per year). Average temperatures in the area vary between 30 and 35°C during the wet season from June to October. From November to May, average temperatures range between 20-25°C. In the south, the equatorial climate helps the luxuriant vegetation to thrive, with its constant annual temperatures, heavy rains and humid southern winds.
