Khartoum, the capital, is at the confluence of the White and Blue Niles. With Omdurman the former capital and northern Khartoum, it forms what is collectively called "the capital of three cities". You need two or three days to make the most of Khartoum and its city atmosphere. Walk around, forage about in the shops and watch people enjoying themselves! Take a visit to Omdurman's camel market; the Arab souk; and the Maison de Khalife's museum which traces the reign of the Madhi at the end of the 19th century.
