Reserves and national parks

Suriname has several national parks throughout the country. Wia Wia reserve (88,920 acres) is home to an important colony of five species of sea tortoises that come to lay their eggs; the ideal period to watch them is from April to June. There are several birds here and in Galibi and Coppename reserves, located by the sea.
