Spectacular views of the Bernese Oberland The lakes, crevices and valleys of the Bernese Oberland. RFcompany / age fotostock
A vast central territory lying between French-speaking Switzerland and German-speaking Switzerland, the Bern region has kept its deep agricultural and traditional roots, such that it offers countless options for holiday makers in search of untouched nature, rural traditions and rustic settings. Excursion lovers will find a genuine Eldorado in the Bernese Oberland, from the romantic shores of Lake Thoune up to the frozen tongue of the glaciers running through countless forests. In the Emmental region, it is not rare to come across small carts pulled by a horse, while the farmers' homes with their large multi-panel roofs, their woodwork and paintings adorning the façades, are always a delight for the eyes. Several rack trains valiantly travel along the slopes of the Jungfrau Alps running up to Europe's highest railway station lying at an altitude of 11331 ft, impossible to choose the best between those and the cable cars and aerial tramways. Adelboden, Lenk, Interlaken, Grindelwald, Brienz and the Lauterbrunnen valley are milestones in a journey through nature in its magnificience: quiet lakes, raging waterfalls, lush valleys and snow-capped mountains.
