On a high and sun-drenched plateau, overlooking the Rhone valley from some 4,500 ft, the twin villages of Crans and Montana are the star attraction of the Valais region.
Skiers will appreciate the resort that reaches all the way up to the Plaine Morte Glacier, at some 10,000 ft in altitude. nestled above the forest, the slopes are wide and open and are ideal for both expert skiers and beginners. From the La-Toula chairlift, even the best skiers will find the slope challenging. The wide carving and downhill Piste Nationale is 8 mi long and leads down into the valley. It is the longest slope in the region and is particularly popular. In the winter, golf courses become the perfect playground for cross-country skiing and excursions. In addition to the traditional skiing practised on normal slopes, there is also a special slope for those who enjoy ski-skating.
