At an altitude of 3,445 ft, the famous village of Gstaad rapidly became the "place to be". It is to Switzerland what Megève is to France, with its luxury hotels and chalets.
As part of the commune of Saanen (canton of the Bernese Oberland, "the high country") the Gstaad region is between the French- and German- speaking parts of Switzerland, stretching from the Bernese Alps to the Jura.
There are nine other main villages in the region: Saanenmoser, Zweissimmen, Schönried, Saanen, Lauenen, Gsteig, Feutersoey, Turbach and Abländschen.
Gstaad ski resort, located at an altitude that ranges between 3,000 and 9,000 ft, under the banner Gstaad Mountain Rides, includes some 180 mi of slopes that are sure to delight professional and amateur skiers alike.
All year round the Swiss resort gives families the place of honour by offering many advantages, including free rides for children aged 9 and under, or free stays at hotels for children (aged 9, 12 or 16) who share their parents' room.
