Although for winter sports the Vaud Alps are not of the same quality as the Valais resorts, the Chateaux-d'Oex, Gstaad and Diablerets regions are ideal destinations in the summer months, when a large range of sporting activities are on offer. From Leysin, a highly renowned health resort for its saunas, you can go for a walk from the heights of the Berneuse gondola lift down to the Aï and the Mayen lakes, go for a mountain bike, or a mule back ride, fish in the rivers and mountain lakes. The Diablerets, with its glacier lying at an altitude of 9845 ft, accessible via gondola lift, is the capital of adventure sports of French-speaking Switzerland. Mountain biking, paragliding, mudbiking, skiing and summer snowboarding, canyoning, rafting, kayaking, climbing, trekking... Unforgettable excursions are likewise on offer from Villars and Gryon. At Château d'Oex, lovers of traditions will follow the path to the Alpage cheese, while church lovers will pay a visit to the Romanic abbey at Rougemont.
