Towns

As in most western countries, 2/3 of the Swiss population are gathered in metropolitan areas. There are over 3 million people living in its 5 largest cities: Zurich, Geneva, Basel, Bern and Lausanne. Despite their size, these towns conserve a community feel. The buildings are rarely over 180 ft high, and the tallest tower in the country, the Messeturm of Basel, is 344 ft. However, this is not much in comparison with the 1,062 ft high Eiffel tower, or the 2,716 ft Burj Khalifa, the highest tower in the world! You can easily escape the hustle-and-bustle of the city and seek refuge in one of the many villages, where the population includes a couple thousand inhabitants, nestled between valleys and mountains.
