The climate is tropical in the south and west, subtropical in the north and in the mountains. The best period to visit the country spans from March to May, and from September to November. During these months, temperatures are not yet stifling, averaging 25°C, although these could easily rise to 30°C. Between December and February, the thermometer mercury drops to an average of 17°C. The summits in the heart of Taiwan peak at 13123 feet. Snow falls in winter and temperatures drop dramatically as altitudes rise. The plains do not witness freezing temperatures. It rains all year round, especially in summer, during the monsoons. Typhoons rage between July and October.
