Nicknamed Little Shanghai, Jiufen is a city nestled on a hill slope along the north-east coast of Taiwan. It is made up of narrow alleys and stone stairs, flanked by red traditional lanterns, refined tea houses and small traditional restaurants. Here, you will find the Shenping Theater, the oldest theatre in Taiwan, built by the Japanese. A real festive and colourful jewel, where you can take time out to wander along the small streets bordered by stalls: A genuine Chinese Medina! You can find all sorts of souvenirs on these stalls : we even found a miniature Eiffel Tower! From its terraces, take in a breathtaking panorama overlooking the jagged coast of the Pacific. In the neighbourhood, lies a former gold mine. An unmissable excursion during your stay in Taiwan, barely a 45 minute bus ride from Taipei.
