Built like a bamboo stalk with eight segments (lucky figure in Taiwan), the Taipei 101 is an absolute embodiment of technical prowess. The tallest skyscraper on the planet peaking at 1667 feet, Taipei 101 hugs the skies with its 101 floors covered by 67 elevators, with 6 additional floors in the basement filled with shopping malls. Over 10,000 people rush daily to work in Taipei's newest symbol. The fastest lift on the planet will take you up to the panoramic platform on the 89th floor in barely 37 seconds. Thereafter, take the stairs to admire the view from the observation terrace lying at a height of 1280 feet. Designed by the Taiwanese architect, C. Y. Lee and inaugurated in 2005, Taipei 101, built in a volcanic area, was conceived to withstand the wrath of nature, such as the typhoons and earthquakes that hit Taiwan repeatedly. At the peak of the tower lies a gigantic steel ball covering three floors, a pendulum of sorts that counterbalances the force of the wind. The public can admire this golden ball, the colour symbolising luck, from the panoramic platform of the 89th floor. The Taipei 101 equally hosts a renowned panoramic and gourmet restaurant.
