A former territory of the Aborigines who had sought refuge in this hitherto inaccessible land, the Taroko national park offers a spectacular sight along the 12 miles of winding roads running across breathtaking landscape from the Pacific coast to the heart of the mountain. An endless string of attractions worth a stopover lie along the way. First and foremost, the Eternal Spring sanctuary built in memory of the soldiers who died on the site. This memorial overlooking a waterfall pouring down from a cliff has been destroyed on several occasions by the very frequent earthquakes that hit the region. Then visit the swallow cave and the Nine Turn tunnel that is crossed on foot giving time to admire the spectacular garges carpeted with marble. Finally, arrive at Tiansiang, to the Grand Formosa Taroko hotel, perched in the heart of a grandiose natural site. From the hotel, you will find a bridge that straddles the confluence of the Tatzuchili and Tasha rivers, that converge to form the Liwu river. This bridge leads to the bamboo-like Pudu temple, perched on the peak of a cliff. This fantastic site is the ideal starting point to explore the national park through its numerous footpaths.
