Tanzanian rivers, lakes and ponds hide an abundance of varied aquatic wildlife and this does not even take into consideration the various fish and mammals that live in the Indian Ocean. The Nile is home to the Nile perch, thought to be one of the largest freshwater fish in the world and reaching lengths of up to 6 ft. They live in the lakes as well as the rivers of Tanzania, together with the Nile Talipia and the tigerfish. The barracuda, the black marlin, the zebra fish and the parrot fish prefer the salt water of the Indian Ocean, though to see dolphins it is best to head to the coasts of Zanzibar.
