In the northeast of Tanzania is the Arusha National Park stretched out over 53 square miles. Founded in 1960, it is mainly covered with various forests sheltering several bird colonies. Pelicans, crowned eagles and ibises are the most common. A good number of land species also live in the area, the most notable being leopards, buffaloes and hippopotamuses. The Momela lakes, the crater of Ngurdoto and Mount Meru are the park's best three sights. The summit of Mount Meru will take you three to four days of trekking to conquer, but your reward is a wonderful view of Kilimandjaro.
