The first Tanzanian National Park, the Serengeti stretches over 5,700 sq mi across which you will see plains and hills covered with savannah trodden by passing animals. Lions, leopards, hippopotamuses, antelopes and crocodiles populate this protected territory. Each year, zebras and wildebeest meet in the park waiting for the rain and then later migrate to new pastures, a phenomenon known as the great migration. When the rains settle, the sun-burnt landscapes suddenly transform into green stretches. In addition to its wildlife, the Serengeti has buried prehistoric sites and ancient gold mines.
