Rotterdam, which is located on the coast of the Maas, is both a city and the largest commercial port in the world. Along its embankment (go on a 1 hour cruise), Oude Haven, the warehouse sector, the Sheepvaart district and the Sea Museum give a good insight of this harbour area. Located near the port, Delfshaven, the only area to have made it through World War II, still boasts some beautiful historic monuments. The Euromast, an immense 610 ft high viewing tower, gives a panorama of the city and the port. The city centre is more modern. West of Coolsingel, the main avenue is Lijnbaan, a pedestrian and commercial area. After shopping, you should visit the famous Boymans-Van Beuningen Museum and the University. The Blijdorp Zoological Garden boasts one of the world's most beautiful exotic bird collections.
