The Italian leather industry has a global reputation, thanks to high quality leather goods, shoes and bags. If you're looking for someting more expensive, look to the celebrated Italian designers. Bring home jewellery and hats, and be seduced by the haute couture and the fashion quarter next to the piazza di Spagna. Bargain-hunt in the roman streets and drop in to the charming antique and craft shops such as those on the via dei Cappellari. In Rome's historic centre, go window-shopping while visiting the Medieval or Renaissance quarters. Visit the lively food markets. Roman shops are open Monday to Friday, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm (from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm in summer). Major shopping centres do not shut at lunchtime and are sometimes even open on a Sunday morning.
