Focus: A fine balance: glamping, so chic

2 - Paperbark Camp, Australia

A fine balance: glamping, so chic

Located in New South Wales' peaceful Jervis Bay, the Paperback tents offer a camping experience with a difference. Forget wood fires and sleeping bags and go for a swish African lodge-like spacious tent on Australia's south-eastern coast. The camp is made up of 12 tents altogether; eight safari tents complete with verandah and four deluxe safari tents with exceptionally large verandahs with the highlight being the outdoor freestanding baths! The tents look in keeping with their surroundings in their colour and lightness. In addition, facilities are kept simple so don't go expecting a resort-like atmosphere, though the hosts are very welcoming.

If you want to combine a nature trip with a beach holiday, Paperbark is a good option as it is located very close to Shoalhaven, where the bay offers a pristine postcard-picture setting of turquoise waters and sandy beaches. There are also a number of nature reserves in the area such as the Booderee Natural Park for fauna and flora seekers.

All tents are very comfortable, with luxury linen, a private open-air ensuite shower and plush fluffy towels and bathrobes provided. As far as the environment goes, all lighting is solar powered here. The price includes breakfast, as well as complimentary bike and canoe rental. Prices range from £200 for two sharing to £650 for a special Paperbark package. For full details, see the Paperbark Camp website.
