If your way of relaxing is an adrenalin-pumped weekend on the water, then this break from Black Mountain Adventures couldn't be more up your street. Based on the River Wye in Wales, this area is particularly famous for its demanding white water sections and rapids. Race down 15 miles of surging river, surviving 'hell holes' and worse, before emerging sodden but satisfied at the other end. The company's white water rafting is only offered during the winter months when river levels are high enough so here, finally, is an opportunity to make the most of all that Welsh rain.

Choose from either a two- or three-day break to make the most of all the activities that the Lodge has to offer. Arrive on your first evening at the three-star Black Mountain Lodge, set in the stunning surroundings of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The rooms are comfortable and the food is hearty - the perfect retreat after a hard day's activity.

For the next two days you will be quite literally chucked in at the deep end for a full-on day of climbing, abseiling, gorge walking, rafting or kayaking - your choice. The experienced guides are with you every step of the way to get you fully prepared for the rapids that they're about to send you down. Bear in mind that some activities require you to be at least 16 years old (and a maximum of 65, unless you can provide a doctor's note stating that you're fit and healthy), but there are plenty of other fun-filled options that the whole family can join in with such as raft building, canoeing or a hike way up into the stunning hills of the Brecon Beacons.
