Ok, so the cold weather is on its way to Britain too, but this also means it's the best time to head north and discover the winter wonders of Finland. This weekend in Harriniva does exactly what it says on the tin - spend three days learning to drive a team of huskies as well as a snowmobile in pursuit of those elusive northern lights.

Harriniva is one of the most ideal spots to see the Aurora, with an excellent reputation amongst both experts and amateurs. For both of the excursions you'll be accompanied by experienced guides who know exactly how to handle their animals (or machines) and will lead you to some of the most isolated landscapes that Finland has to offer.

The husky safari is an obvious favourite, leaving you two days to learn the ropes on how to drive huskies through Finland's white wilderness. The excitement of the dogs is contagious - they live, breathe and eat to race across the snow so good luck trying to contain them! You'll spend the night in a beautifully secluded cabin, simple but complete with hot sauna and, of course, the responsibility of making sure the dogs are well fed and settled. Then it's up bright and early to make it back to the hotel in time for a snowmobile safari which will have you chasing the Aurora through the night.

It's a non-stop weekend but by far the best way to see Finland if you've only got a weekend or so at your disposal. The sights and knowledge you take away with you will last a lifetime and make the post-holiday fatigue seem like a small price to pay.
