While Sydney and Melbourne are firm favourites with tourists visiting Australia, Brisbane, the country's third largest, is also a world-class city to be explored.
It has an admirable setting on the Brisbane River with both historical monuments and a commanding high-rise financial area. Enjoying warm temperatures all year round, it is a great city in which to cycle with both flat and hilly areas for those who want a bit more exercise.
Pretty much all of Brisbane's attractions, such as its art galleries, parks and gardens and architectural highlights are accessible by bike. Therefor, there is no need to ever risk paying for using the bikes over and above the initial rental cost ($2AUD for 24 hours, $11AUD for a week). The first 30 minutes are free while the cost for further use goes up incrementally and quite steeply. Docking stations are situated at around every 300-500m and every bike is fitted with a lock should you wish to keep it for an extended period. While there are no helmets provided, they are compulsory so you'll need to buy or rent one during your stay. You can help yourself to a bike between 5:00am and 10:00pm but you can return it 24 hours a day.
