Need to get away but don't have much time to spare? Looking for an alternative to the traditional Med or Caribbean itineraries? Jump aboard the Marco Polo and head north, not south, for its Majestic Fjordland sailing (seven days). Departure is from Tilbury (Essex) and takes holidaymakers to some of Norway's most spectacular fjords, via Ulvik, Eidfjord, Flam, Hellesylt, Geiranger and Bergen, before sailing back to Blighty. Eidfjord is famous for the Vøringsfossen waterfall with a free fall of 182 metres, while the picturesque village of Flam claims a charming harbour but is probably most famous forthe 12 mile Flam railway, one of the steepest railway tracks in the world. Hellesylt, surrounded by several mountains and valleys, is breathtaking, but the cruise's star attraction is the stunning Geiranger; bestowed the title of best travel destination in Scandinavia by Lonely Planet, it has also been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Surrounded by mountains on the country's south-western coast, Bergen meanwhile is Norway's second largest city and a buzzing cultural hub.
