For your eyes only: the best of Bond's travels

Roger Moore's fifth outing as 007 takes him to various areas of the Mediterranean, however arguably the most impressive of these destinations is Greece. In pursuit of Milos Colombo, Bond heads to the Ionian island of Corfu where we get a glimpse of the Achilleion, a palace built in the late 19th century by Elisabeth of Bavaria and whose theme is the Greek warrior Achilles. The casino scene of the film was shot here at the palace which features a multitude of paintings and statues of the hero of the Trojan War. Towards the end of the movie, we are treated to the spectacle that is Meteora (meaning 'suspended in the air' in Greek), a collection of 24 Eastern Orthodox monasteries built atop sandstone pillars above the Peneas Valley. Added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1988, only four of the 24 monasteries at Meteora are still functioning, including Agia Triatha, or Monastery of the Holy Trinity. Today they are one of the principal tourist attractions in mainland Greece.
