7 - Cappadocia in Turkey

Hiking around the world

In the heart of Turkey, the erosion of the Taurus Mountains created Cappadocia, an atypical region formed from deep valleys, cliffs and fairy chimneys. These latter features are cones of basalt topped off with tuff, which the wind, rain and sand have crafted over time. With all these natural marvels, this region is a true hikers' paradise as they can hit the small craggy paths which snake through the low valleys, drowning in greenery. Situated in the heart of central Anatolia, the Cappadocia region is unmissable if you are doing the Turkey circuit. Its very particular geographic configuration lies behind the impressive landscape: a semi-lunar aspect and a succession of ravines, cavities and outgrowths. The area has been able to adopt the vine as a crop due to its rich, fertile volcanic soil. Dotted with troglodyte houses and churches and charming rock villages, the region is all the more pleasant to discover when you can enjoy the famous hospitality of the Turks by tasting the wine from the region.
