In a country renowned for its lack of discrimination, Canada presents no danger for the woman travelling alone. You'll have no trouble discovering, at your own pace, the wide open spaces, the lakes, the forests, the canyons and of course the fjords. Equally as seducing are the cities of Montreal, Quebec and Toronto where shopping by day and partying by night is the order of the day. In order to completely fit in to the Canadian culture, then there are a few pieces of advice that you should follow. First is never to overtly show your emotions and to try and control your anger. This type of expression doesn't go down too well in Canada. Second, if you are travelling with children, you should not smack them in public, as this is looked down upon too. When in Quebec, avoid mocking their (French) accent and above all don't refer to Canadians in general as Americans! At the beach and in the swimming pool, know that bathing topless is not allowed. Women in Canada are very liberal in terms of their relationships with men, but attention all the same when you accept or offer a date. Make sure you are absolutely explicit about the context as if not you may be accused of sexual harassment (the same applies for men). With just a little restraint and a smile on your face you'll easily integrate into this wonderful country.
