What better way to celebrate Halloween than visiting the homelands of Dracula or Vlad the Impaler as he is also known? Visit Transylvania Travel is offering two options for trips to Romania this Halloween. The first is a seven day tour of Dracula's castle and the surrounding areas of interest. The second is a four day trip - essentially a condensed version of the main Dracula tour. Both tours begin and end in Bucharest, providing a great opportunity to see both the old and the new Romania.
With the seven day Dracula tour, visitors will be shown the area which was once the home of Vlad the Impaler - Poienari Castle. This castle - which is now effectively a ruin - lies at the top of a cliff and visitors must climb 1,400 steps to reach it. Your tour guides will also take you to Sibiu, a town of great historical importance with plenty of beautiful churches and monuments to see. On the night of Halloween, the Dracula trail takes you to Hunyad Castle, reported to be one of the most haunted places in Europe. The Halloween party has a medieval theme and includes medieval dance shows, Dracula's wedding, and a traditional Romanian dinner accompanied by live folk music.
For those opting for the shorter four day tour, you can expect to see all the highlights mentioned above, as well as the UNESCO World Heritage Sight of Sighisoara, where you will stay in a three-star hotel that was once a Bishop's Palace. There is also a trip to Bran Castle which dates back to before the 14th century and which was made famous by the Dracula legend of Bram Stoker.
