Above all, Tanzania is a country where nature is queen, portrayed by the majestic Kilimanjaro at 5,895 metres high. Highest point of Africa, the summit remains covered in snow all year round. Every year, thousands of hikers climb the summit, which is technically easy but for which you must be in relatively good shape mainly in order to cope with the altitude. There are seven itineraries which vary in difficulty. The Kilimanjaro has three craters: Shira (3,900 metres), the oldest, Mawenzi (5,150 metres) and Kibo (5,895 metres). The Mawenzi and the Kibo are separated by the 'Saddle', a six mile field of hardened lava.
