Approximately 8,600 of Air Canada's mechanics, baggage handlers and cargo agents will begin strike action on Monday 12 March, if a deal is not reached with the carrier's management. The airline has been warned by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) that its workers would take labour action and potentially ruin thousands of holiday makers' travel plans.

Duncan Dee, Air Canada's Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, stated that "we recognise that the IAMAW's notice of strike action in the midst of the peak March Break travel period will cause uncertainty for thousands of our customers. We regret the uncertainty for our customers and we thank them for their patience and understanding."

The airline said that if an agreement is not reached, it will nevertheless endeavor to minimize inconvenience to its customers. In the meantime, Air Canada continues to operate its normal schedule without disruption.
