Continental Airlines and Brussels Airlines launched their new codeshare agreement on Monday, which means that passengers travelling to the US from Bristol will still be able to catch transatlantic flights, even after Continental's New York direct service ends on 7 November.
The Belgian airline meanwhile, operates three flights per day to Brussels from Bristol, with onward connections to New York's Newark hub on board Continental.
Aviation Director at Bristol airport Shaun Browne said "This agreement is good news for Continental's customers in the south-west and Wales."
"It means they can continue to enjoy the convenience of flying from their regional airport even when Continental's direct service to New York ceases to operate later this year."
Both airlines belong to the Star Alliance, an association that counts Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa and South African Airways among its members.
