From February next year the low-cost airline will link London's Gatwick airport with Granada's Federico García Lorca airport, a route that hasn't been flown since 2007.

Low-cost airline easyJet has announced that it will add a new route from London Gatwick to Granada from next year. Beginning on February 4, the airline will operate three weekly flights to the Spanish city as one of its year-round schedule.

Flights between Gatwick and Granada's Federico García Lorca airport will depart on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays by one of easyJet's 180-capacity Airbus A-320s.

Ever since Ryanair dropped the route in 2007, Granada and its region have been crying out for more direct flights. The only other airline offering a direct connection is British Airways, which flies from London City Airport.

"We've always said that Spain is a key market for Easyjet and are delighted to be able to announce operations from a new airport such as Granada," said Director General of EasyJet Spain, Javier Gándara.

Tickets for the new route went on sale earlier this week, with the low-cost airline, along with Granada's city council, promising 'competitive prices' on the three-hour flights.
