The sales have kicked off in the UK, and to help those tight wallets survive, budget hotel chain UMI are offering hotel rooms for a mere 1! Like with budget airline seats at 1 per day (plus VAT), you have to move fast! UMI has budget hotels in Notting Hill and on Brighton's seafront, and as if that wasn't good enough, the price also includes a continental breakfast. However, if you have not been able to bag this bargain, then UMI hotel rooms are still very reasonably priced: At just 49 a night in London, it beats the average hotel room price of 127, and in Brighton rooms cost 44. This offer is valid only for the month of January.

So, do UMI rooms really cost 1 or is it another money-making scam? Hotelchatter.com has reported having successfully found a single room for 1 in Notting Hill with an on-suite bathroom; keyboards at the ready then!

A great initiative taken by UMI owner and founder Steve Lowy, recently named Business Person of the Year at the North & West London Business Awards. On this innovation, he explains: "Cost-conscious consumers can enjoy the January sales shopping experience without going into the red, and ease their way into 2009 with enjoy a short break in two of this country's most popular cities for tourism."

It looks as though businesses are all acting in favor of the consumer in order to boost their sales during this crucial period. This year's sales are going to be make-or-break for the British economy.

You can get more information, check room availability or make a booking on the UMI Website
