Ryanair has been forced to axe five routes this summer from BAA- owned Edinburgh airport.
Routes to Berlin, Malmo, Murcia, Ibiza and Tallinn will be closed in April, at the beginning of the summer schedule.
Ryanair chief executive, Micheal O'Leary, claimed it would lead to a loss of up to 300 jobs and a 300 000 reduction in the number of annual passengers.
He affirms, "Ryanair regrets BAA Edinburgh airport's rejection of our proposal for a competitive cost base which would allow Ryanair to further grow our traffic and routes for summer 2012."
He added that he wanted to work with BAA Edinburgh to lower fares, not raise them.
Furthermore, since 2010, long haul low-cost carrier, Air Asia X, has closed routes to London, Paris and India.
