The Prime Minister of Thailand Abhisit Vejjajiva has declared a state emergency following the 'red shirt' opposition's plans to stage large demonstrations throughout the country.
Bangkok in particular is preparing itself for unrest with the news that protestors will congregate in several city locations on the 12th of March, with protests expected to continue into and over the weekend.
Vejjajiva's government has since invoked the Internal Security Act from the 11th - 23rd March in the capital and seven surrounding provinces.
The protest is expected to paralyse the capital, with traffic to be severely affected and violence probable.
With the current political situation in Thailand being volatile, British nationals are advised to exercise "great caution" and to avoid mass gatherings which have the potential to turn violent.
