Despite the 24-hour Tube strike taking place today, it is important to know firstly that not all London Underground lines are affected and secondly that there are plenty of other means of transport to get you around London. The Northern and DLR lines are operating normally, while the District, Jubilee, Victoria and Waterloo & City lines are only running slight delays. The rest of the lines are either partly of fully suspended.
London buses are running a full service and there are extra services operating along key routes. There will be volunteers at bus stations to advice passengers on how to get to their required destinations. Equally, London over ground services are not affected and continue to operate a regular service.
If you need to travel along the Thames, then it might be an idea to catch a boat with the River service, which is operating at additional capacity. Alternatively, if you are a member of the Barclays Cycle Hire, then you will of course have access to this mode of transport, which you are encouraged to try, although demand is likely to be high.
If you are planning to go to Heathrow airport, you will not be able to access it via the Piccadilly Line which is suspended. You can catch the Heathrow Express from Paddington station.
