New York hotel The Surrey is set to launch a programme for guests in need of VIP treatment for their pets.

The 'posh pet' programme will essentially provide a babysitting service for those who want to explore the city without their four-legged friend in tow. Pets will also be privilege to grooming and gourmet meals, as well as their very own Director of Pet Relations to cater to all canine needs.

Pets will have their own private room, containing a welcome gift, note from the hotel and luxury doggie bed. The mini-bar is to be stocked with produce such as fois gras biscuits from Bocce's Bakery, an all-natural dog biscuit company based in the West Village.

The Surrey has stated that the launch of its programme is in response to increased customer demand for such a service, with owners willing to spend more and more on their companions.

The UK has recently relaxed its quarantine regulations on animals entering or re-entering the country, meaning an increased number of owners are now travelling with their pets.
