The villages

The villages Villages More traditional and based more around handicraft work, the villages are a better choice than some of the bigger cities if you are looking to interact with the locals. © Vivianne Riviere

The villages are worth a longer stay, especially Chaguanas, a small Indian borough where you can buy lovely gold and silver objects. It is the birthplace of the Nobel literature laureate V.S. Naipaul, autho of "A House for Mr Biwas". The charming fishermen's village of Speyside and its Fort Williams, residence of the president ot Trinidad and Tobago, is also worth a brief stopover.
