When they are flat, the roofs of Tunisian houses are rooms in themselves. Designed as roof terraces, they offer a superb panorama of the medina of Tunis, or of the Mediterranean in Hammamet. To get access to these private panoramas, try this out: ask in a shop if you could take a look at the roof terrace. After climbing two or three floors, you will come across a space with no benches and sometimes decorated with arches or stairs adorned with earthen tiles. It is an absolute wonder to behold, especially as the sun sets.
