This site, used in Star Wars to depict the fictitious planet Tatooine, actually lies in the heart of the desert, a couple of miles away from Tozeur. The troglodyte courtyards and buildings are inspired by the famous troglodyte houses of Matmata. As to the name of the planet in the film, Tatooine, it comes from that of the town, Tataouine. Easily accessible, the setting from the film is worth a visit, preferably at sunset, when the sun's rays turn the walls and the surrounding sand a golden colour.
