Istanbul's inhabitants and visitors generally go to Bodrum, the most stylish of Turkey's seaside resorts, well known for its windmills, marina, vibrant nightlife, and fish restaurants. The city, stretching from the medieval fortress of St Peter to the hills in the hinterland of the country, offers an original and well-preserved atmosphere. It is an important starting point for caïque cruises (local wooden yachts) and holds a plethora of shipbuilding sites where traditional sailing ships are assembled. As well as St. Peter's castle and its underwater archeological museum, you can also discover the foundations of the Halicarnasse - rather modest vestiges of what was once one of the 7 wonders of the world.
