Belfast, Northern Ireland The capital and largest city of Northern Ireland, as well as the second largest city on the island of Ireland, Belfast has a range of sites to explore Vladimira Dvorakova / age fotostock;
Belfast is a much more exciting capital than one would imagine, thanks to its very renowned university: Queens University. Start out with this exceptional edifice. Built in the middle of the 19th century, the Tudor-styled university possesses a tower copied from that of Magdalen College in Oxford. The next step is the botanic gardens nearby. They have an exquisite greenhouse set up in a Victorian building. Against this bright and airy background, you will treat yourself to beautiful exotic plants. Continue to Donegal Square, the heart of the capital. The imposing City Hall dominates the square. A few steps away lies Saint-Malachy church, a must for its richly-decorated stucco ceiling. Round off with a pint of your favorite beer in the Belfast's oldest pub. Located on Great Victoria Street, the Crown Liquor Saloon is a classified monument thanks to its Victorian architecture. Sculpted woodwork, gilted surfaces and mosaics: the decor is simply stunning, although the lively atmosphere remains that of a traditional pub.
